In guildwars each character will have a profession and a secondary profession. You will get multiple slots so you can play more than one character (so you can try out more than one).
That being said you could play what you feel comfortable with: do you like to hack and slash? then you would play one of the melee classes like warrior or dervish, like to play with the elements? then ele is for you. Like to raise the dead? necro. Like to heal others? monk.
Also the highest level is only 20 so you can pretty quickly get a character to max level.

Best suggestion is try out different classes and see what you feel good playing.
and welcome to guildwars.

Pairing the Ele class with Warrior is generally not the greatest idea, as most Ele skills require 10+ energy. Though, it does have some uses.

There is a line of skills that add a pretty decent amount of damage output if you invest some skill points into it.

Conjure Flame
Conjure Lightning
Conjure Frost

If you use any of these skills it would require you to wield weapon with a mod that converts the physical damage into the appropriate elemental damage (Fiery Sword Hilt, etc)

Other than that I'm not sure what benefits you would really get from the combination.

If you need any help just shoot me a message in game and I'd be glad to answer any questions or just help you out in general.
My IGN is King Kitto or Atrocious Shadow!

Lastly, welcome to the great world of Guild Wars

Whilst you're right of course, you just said a bunch of stuff this guy isn't going to understand yet. (No disrespect to either meant).

Cosy is closest. Just play and get a feel for the game first of all. Don't worry about professions or skill and weapon combos yet. That will come in time.

If you want to play as a warrior elementalist, just do so.

Then as you get a feel for it, choose more carefully for your second and third and fourth etc characters.

But most importantly, just have fun. Ignore any of the "omg I can't believe you have that skill combo" elitists. They suck the fun out of the world.

Once you become "Ascended" it won't matter what your secondary profession is, because you can change it to any other that your account's chapters support. Until then it's fun playing odd combos at low levels because you can pull off some amazing hacks. All the skills are pretty weak at low levels but some actually shine there and become meh! later on.

That said, try out Warrior/Ele. A warrior with Armor of Earth makes a great tank, just can't move much until the enchantment wears off. And in that respect, there are some Point Blank Area of Effect (bpAoE) spells that make more sense on a tank than on a distance caster.

Have fun with it, and try to come up with some crazy, effective combo builds!

i always made chars with monk as secondary for hardres (ressurrection spell you can use more than once anywhere), and tried to learn about the primary

just try, and when you find people in GW (guilds are best, or on these forums), when they say "you should use xx and xx instead" just reply with "i'm new, so trying out skills and the basics"

so yea, trying is your best help by learning about GuildWars, and as stated before, you can at a point in the game change your secondary

just read the skills well, and train as much as you can to see what happens with them, cuz seeing is better than just reading

about reading: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page
that site has a LOT of info about GW, i still keep it with me when doing GW, even after 99 months playing GW
